Trip #5 The Move from SLC to Cedar City

Moving is always such an adventure even if isn't for yourself.
I headed out Tuesday night to help Brian move to Cedar City. The plan was to drive his car down while he drove the rental van. No such luck. After taking his car to be looked at, again, it was decided that the engine needed to be taken apart to calculate the full damage to cylinder 5 (he's been having trouble with it since we bought the car) and to decide if the warranty would cover it. Plan #2 I would drive down with him with the rental van, find an apartment, help him move in and he would get a ride back to Salt Lake with a friend when his car was done.
So by the time I got there all the big furniture was packed in the moving van (thanks Taylor), but there was still lots to pack. We spent the evening at the laundromat cleaning all his bedding and dirty clothes. Can I tell you how thankful I am that I don't have to go to laundromat anymore!!!! $1.75 per small load, $3.00 per large load to wash, and $1.00 for each dryer. $15.00 later we headed back to apartment to finish packing, but soon found ourselves both asleep.
Up early the next morning, we packed and finally headed out around noon. We returned the rental car I got the night before, stopped in American Fork to drop of a bed that a friend let Brian borrow for his old roommates (thanks Kate & Jared) and finally hit the road at about 1:45PM (so much for the early start).
Now Brian has been to Cedar City when he was younger to go the the Shakespeare Festival, but he really didn't remember just how small Cedar City was. As we drove into town down Main Street he saw how small it was and said, "We could be back in Salt Lake by nightfall!!" A little freaked out we headed to our hotel "The Knights Inn" and drove around the town in the evening (didn't take very long!!). Still freaked out we called it a night.
In the morning we were awoken by the sound of sirens, they just kept going and going. I thought maybe Cedar wasn't a very safe town, so we peeked out the door only to see people lined up along the street for , oh yea dumb California kid, the Pioneer Parade. Okay small town Pioneer Parade, pretty funny. I was laughing so hard I was crying and I kept telling poor Brian, "Welcome to your new town!" , while laughing hysterically. What has he gotten himself into? Pioneer day put a hamper on our apartment hunting, so we found a gentleman who met us at the storage units (Of course, after the parade. Remember we couldn't get out!) and after some money being exchanged, we unpacked the moving van. We ran back to the hotel, showered and changed, then headed off to the Shakespeare Festival and saw "Taming of the Shrew", one of my favorite plays (thanks Josh for the great tickets). After the show we decided that driving around in a big moving van was not very fun, so we rented a car and returned the van. Off we took exploring town again trying to find all the hot spots!! They do have a new Costa Vida (thank goodness) and a very large Wal Mart. Okay, maybe he could TRY to live here.
Friday his roommate showed up (who luckily has lived there) and they took off to find a place to live. After a whole day of searching they found a 3 bedroom they really liked only to be told by the guy they thought was going to be their 3rd roommate that he wasn't sure. Back to the drawing board, looking for a 2 bedroom apartment on another day. We topped the evening with going to go see MamaMia.
Saturday I had to head back home. We got up early Saturday morning and headed to Las Vegas for my flight. I got on a plane leaving my son homeless and with no car (he had to return the rental that night). Thankfully he is staying with his roommates family (thanks Josh's folks) and hopefully they will find a place to live tomorrow or Tuesday. Thursday he heads back on the road for the rest of his tour and will hopefully have a car and a place to live when he returns.
In conclusion, Brian now lives nowhere, but his furniture and belongings live in Cedar City. He is really excited to go to school there and is hoping he can survive small town Utah!
