COTA HAPPENINGS: Summer 2008
The Cota family is in for an exciting and busy summer.
BRIAN
Brian is in a play this summer that will be touring the Western United States (except Calif., boo!) This is his first paying acting job and he is very excited. He has learned so much and loves the play. Check out the web site at ldsmusical.com. He has applied to Southern Utah University and hopes to start there in the fall as a Theatre Arts major.
STEPHANIE
Stephanie is busy in school and swimming. She just finished her spring semester at LSU with a 4.0 GPA. She is also very busy preparing for the Olympic trials starting on June 29th in Omaha, Nebraska. She will be swimming the 400IM (individual medley- 2 laps of each stroke), 400 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle and hopefully the 800 Freestyle. She loves LSU, but hates the humidity. We hope after graduation she comes home to California so that we can see her more often.
ANDREW
Andrew probably has the busiest schedule of all of us. He leaves the day after school gets out leaving for the Dominican Republic (June 13th-28th). He will be working with the Batey Relief Alliance to help renovate some buildings at a medical facility that serves those that live in the plantation slum communities (called bateys). He will fly to Omaha to watch his sister swim at Olympic Trials. He will then come home, do laundry, rest a day and then head off to Southern California for a 3 day fun with friends. Next he flies to Bolivia(July 10th-28th) to help build school facilities. Both his service trips are with a group called Alliance for Youth Service. Home for a day then off to NYC with Mom. We will be seeing some Broadway shows, going to the MET, playing in Central Park, and checking out some colleges. After four days in NYC he head off to go to EFY in Palmyra. From there he will fly to Wausau, WI where he will be picked up by his loving parents and taken to the cabin he Minocqua to rest, recuperate and chill before school starts. He will also have some reading to do for his AP Literature class, but rest is at the top of the list. We will all fly home the day before his senior year starts.
BECKY
Becky will be trying to keep up with the kids. Andrew and I will be going to Logan on June 7th to see opening night of Brian’s play. Due to Andrew’s busy summer schedule, this was the only day he could go to see it. Next Dennis and I will go to Park City for a brief break (June 13th-17th). We will also be seeing Brian’s play in Salt Lake and spending Father’s Day with him. Next we are off to Omaha to watch Stephanie at Olympic Trials. I will be home 3 days and then off to Girl’s Camp with my terrific Young Woman from GB III. Five days in the mountains with approx. 150 teenage girls!! With a week to recuperate, I will then fly to Salt Lake and help Brian move to Cedar City (hopefully, if he gets accepted!) Home on the 27th and off on the 30th with Andrew for NYC. We will pick Dennis up in Syracuse on the 5th of Aug. in time to drop Andrew off for EFY. Then the two of us will visit Palmyra, Niagara Falls, and take the car ferry across Lake Michigan and drive up to the cabin in Minocqua!!
DENNIS
As you’ve read above he will be joining me for Park City, Olympic Trials, and our exciting trip from Syracuse to Minocqua. On top of all that he is crazy busy at work with his law firm. Lately, he has been on the road 3-4 days a week. When he’s not at work, his church duties as bishop of Granite Bay Third Ward keep him pretty busy. He loves his life and all the craziness it brings. He will be turning 50 years old in June, but looks, works, and acts like a 20 year old to me. He enjoys collecting old matchbox cars. He has almost all the 1967, 1968, and 1969 cars that were built thanks to e-bay (and Becky who knows how to work e-bay). He also collects Ray Bradbury books and for his birthday received the last for his collection, Dark Carnival which is very rare. It is #272 out of 700 copies and signed by Ray Bradbury himself. He also got back his 1965 red MGB fully restored. It runs like a brand new car. So FUN!!
Life is good and we are truly blessed. Have a great summer!!
